In Minecraft, enchanting your tools is one of the most important stuff that boost efficiency and durability of your tools, and eventually survival.
With a better durability, you can get involved in mining, digging, chopping, or building while saving your time.
In this particular guide, we will be breaking down the best enchantments for each major Minecraft tool. And not only that, we will also explain why they matter, what to enchant first, and how to get the best combinations.
Best Enchantments for All Minecraft Tools
We will talk about the six tools and the best combo of enchantments.
1. Pickaxe Enchantments
It won’t be hard to say that Pickaxe is the backbone of Minecraft resource gathering. And below are the best enchantment for you to try –
-
Unbreaking III – Best one to have! Increases tool durability dramatically.
-
Efficiency V – Increases mining speed & efficiency. Essential when working with stone or obsidian.
-
Fortune III – Multiplies drops from ores like diamonds, lapis, coal, and emeralds.
-
Silk Touch (Optional) – Best suggestion would be to use it on a secondary pickaxe to collect blocks like ores, glass, and grass blocks.
-
Mending – Best way to Repair the tool with XP instead of using an anvil. Pairs well with Unbreaking.
💡 Best Combo: Efficiency V + Fortune III + Unbreaking III + Mending
(Optional: Create a second pickaxe with Silk Touch instead of Fortune)
2. Shovel Enchantments
Probably my favorite tool when enchanted with right combo. Try the below mentioned enchantment if you are gonna try Shovel –

-
Unbreaking III – Increases the durability & make your tool last longer.

Hoes have a place in late-game strategy (especially in 1.16+ versions):

-
Unbreaking III – Reduces wear and tear.

Most players don’t think to enchant shears, but if you’re into aesthetics or farming:

-
Efficiency (Java-only via commands) – Speeds up shearing, leaf clearing.
💡 Best Combo: Unbreaking III + Mending

6. Flint and Steel Enchantments
This tool doesn’t accept traditional enchantments in survival. No enchantments apply.
What Should You Enchant First?
It is also possible that you have limited XP and resources, or you are just too early in the game. For situations like these, we have created a priority list for you. You can easily try the first one and proceed with the second enchantment when you have earned more XPs.
We will be mentioning best enchantment for a particular tool.
-
Pickaxe – Fortune III is game-changing for ore yield.
-
Sword – For defense and mob drops.
-
Armor – Especially chestplate and boots (for feather falling).
-
Axe – If used as a weapon or heavy builder.
-
Shovel/Hoe – Mid-late game when resources are steady.
-
Bow/Crossbow/Trident – Based on your ranged combat style.
Bonus Tips: How to Combine Enchantments Right
-
Use an Anvil, not the Enchanting Table, to merge enchanted books or tools.
-
Combine lower-level books (Efficiency I + Efficiency II = III) to save XP.
-
Order matters, always put the tool in the first slot and books in the second to reduce XP cost.
-
Use a grindstone to remove unwanted enchantments.
