The Sacrifice Totem is one of the most valuable items you can find in 99 Nights in the Forest, especially when exploring the Volcanic Biome.
While it may look like a strange little doll at first, this item plays a major role in powering the volcano’s reward system.
Here’s a complete breakdown of what the Sacrifice Totem does, how to use it, and why you should keep every one you find.
Where to Find the Sacrifice Totem
The Sacrifice Totem can be found inside Hot Chests scattered throughout the Volcanic Biome.
You can collect multiple totems during your run, and they won’t burn if thrown into a campfire.
However, if you accidentally drop one into lava, it’s gone for good, so handle them carefully.
How to Use the Sacrifice Totem
Once you’ve found the Volcano entrance and cleared out the cultists inside, you can use the Sacrifice Totem to charge the volcano’s sacrificial pit.
Normally, dropping players, cultists, wolves, or alpha wolves into the pit gives 1 charge toward the volcano’s progress circle.
But when you drop a Sacrifice Totem, it gives 2 charges instead.
This makes it a powerful shortcut for quickly filling the volcano’s charge circle and unlocking high-value rewards faster.
Volcano Rewards and Charge System
Each time you fill the volcano’s charge circle (8 charges total), the game spawns specific items in a set order on the stone table inside the volcano. The order of rewards is:
- Forest Gem Fragment x1
- Cultist Gems x3
- Infernal Sword or Infernal Crossbow x1
Because the Sacrifice Totem grants 2 charges per use, you only need 4 totems to fully charge the volcano and get the top-tier rewards. Without them, you’d need 8 individual bodies to reach the same result.
Appearance
The Sacrifice Totem looks like a small statue wrapped in cloth or bandages, similar to a mummy or voodoo doll.
Three nails are driven through its chest, and it resembles a cultist figure.
Its eerie design fits its purpose perfectly: a “doll” to throw into the volcano.
Tips and Tricks
-
Keep every Sacrifice Totem you find until you unlock the volcano, then use them to claim rewards faster.
-
Don’t drop totems into lava by accident—they can’t be recovered.
-
Use totems strategically to minimize the number of cultists or animals you need to sacrifice.
-
If you find them early, store them safely for when you’re ready to explore the volcanic area.
Related Badge: Volcanology
Making sacrifices to the volcano is also tied to a badge called Volcanology, which requires making 150 sacrifices.
Completing it rewards 5 gems and a Lava Fountain furniture item.
Why Sacrifice Totems Are Worth Keeping
In short, Sacrifice Totems cut your work in half when charging the volcano. Instead of farming or dragging multiple cultists, you can use a few totems to unlock all the volcanic rewards efficiently.
If you’re farming for Cultist Gems or aiming for the Infernal Sword, these totems are a huge time saver.
