The Deer is Hurt update adds one of the most important quests in 99 Nights in the Forest. After the November fifteen update, a new cutscene reveals that the deer has been attacked by a mysterious pink winged creature.
Saving the deer not only completes this storyline but also unlocks the deer as a powerful ally who protects your campfire during cultist raids.
Below is the complete, properly structured guide to saving the deer.
How to Save the Deer in 99 Nights in the Forest
1. Find the Injured Deer
Once the opening cutscene ends, walk east from your campfire. In a small forest clearing, you will find the deer collapsed on damaged ground.
One antler is missing, the other is cracked, and the deer’s leg is broken. This is where the rescue begins.

2. Heal the Deer
The deer’s two major injuries must be treated before it can recover.
You need two medical items.
A medkit is used to fix the broken leg, and a bandage is used to repair the damaged antler.
Players who start as the Medic class have an advantage here since they can obtain medical supplies early. Once both items are applied, the deer sits upright and enters a slow recovery state.
3. Feed the Deer
Healing the wounds is not enough. The deer must regain its strength through food.
You can use cooked meat, morsels, carrots, soups, and similar items. Meat works the fastest.
Expect to feed the deer around ten to twenty five pieces of meat. Each piece heals a portion of its recovery bar until the deer is able to stand.
4. Protect the Deer From Incoming Attacks
As soon as the feeding process begins, wolves and alpha wolves start attacking.
These enemies spawn from opposite sides of the clearing and attempt to finish off the weakened deer.
You must stay close and defeat every threat before it reaches the deer.
If the deer dies, the entire rescue resets.
Good melee weapons and light sources make this phase far more manageable.
5. Give the Deer the Purple Fur Tuft
When the deer stands up again, interact with it and give it the Purple Fur Tuft found near the clearing.
Once the deer smells the tuft, it immediately begins tracking the creature that injured it.
Follow the deer deeper into the forest until it leads you to a massive underground cave. Inside the cave, a cutscene begins.
The winged monster screams from the darkness, and the deer enters its hungry state with glowing red eyes. After a short battle inside the cave, the deer defeats the attacker.
You can then enter the cave and claim the legendary chest that appears as your reward.

Why Saving the Deer Is Important
Saving the deer permanently turns it into an ally. During cultist raids, the deer appears at your campfire, charges directly into battle, and kills hostile cultists before they reach you. It also scares enemies away from the fire, making nighttime survival much easier.
This is the only time the deer willingly steps into the light and fights alongside the player.
Best Tips for Saving the Deer
• Collect a medkit, a bandage, and plenty of meat before visiting the deer
• Try completing the quest during daytime for safer travel
• Use bright tools and strong weapons so wolves cannot surround you
• Keep close to the deer during the attack waves to avoid losing progress
