All Taming Requirements in 99 Nights in the Forest (Tame Animals Guide)

Last updated on October 15th, 2025 at 10:45 pm

The latest Taming Update for 99 Nights in the Forest finally lets players tame wild animals and keep them as loyal companions.

With the help of Taming Flutes, you can befriend creatures in the forest, feed them their favorite food, and turn them into pets that follow and protect you throughout your run.

Here’s a complete guide on how taming works, where to find the flute, how to upgrade it, and every animal’s taming requirements.

How to Tame Animals in 99 Nights in the Forest

Taming animals is a two-step process: playing the flute to calm them down, and then feeding them specific food to complete the bond.

Once tamed, the animal becomes your pet.

They’ll follow you around the forest and, except for rabbits, will fight off hostile entities that attack you.

Step 1: Get the Taming Flute

You’ll find the Old Taming Flute inside the Domestication Cabin near your camp. At the start of a round, look around for a red tent with a pot next to it. Inside that pot are Old Taming Flutes you can pick up.

The Old Taming Flute is Level 1, which means you can only tame basic animals like Rabbits, Wolves, Scorpions, and Arctic Foxes at first.

Step 2: Play the Taming Minigame

Once you find an animal, step inside the green circle around it. A taming bar will appear on the right side of your screen, similar to the fishing minigame. Keep the red line inside the highlighted green area to calm the animal.

For tougher animals, you may need to repeat this several times. If you have the Zookeeper class, this step becomes easier. Keep a few bandages on hand, since some animals can attack during failed attempts.

Step 3: Feed the Animal

After calming the animal, it will demand specific food items. Each species has different preferences and amounts. Feed them the required food to finalize the taming process.

For example:

  • Rabbits only need 1x Carrot

  • Wolves require 2x Steaks

  • Alpha Wolves demand multiple higher-tier foods like Steak, Stew, and Corn

Once fed, the taming is complete, and the animal officially becomes your pet.

How to Upgrade Taming Flutes

You can upgrade your flute inside the new Upgrade Building near camp. The building looks rusty, and inside you’ll find both the fishing rod and taming flute upgrade stations.

Above your map icon, you’ll see a yellow XP bar for the flute. Every time you tame an animal, this bar fills up. When it’s full, you can upgrade your flute to the next level.

  • Super Taming Flute (Level 3)

Higher flute levels let you tame stronger animals like Bears, Lava Mammoths, and Mammoths.

Why Taming Is Worth It

  • They follow you throughout the round.

  • They defend you if you’re attacked (except rabbits).

  • They help manage aggressive entities and can turn dangerous encounters in your favor.
