The Taming Flute is one of the key items introduced in the Taming Update of 99 Nights in the Forest.
It allows players to tame animals they find in the wild, turning them into loyal pets that follow and help during runs.
But to tame stronger creatures like bears, polar bears, and mammoths, you’ll need to upgrade your flute beyond the basic level.
Here’s a complete guide on how to upgrade the Taming Flute in 99 Nights in the Forest.
What is the Taming Flute
The Taming Flute is used to pacify and tame animals by holding the mouse button to keep the meter inside the green zone. Each successful tame increases your flute experience.
The flute starts as the Old Taming Flute, which can tame basic animals like Bunny, Kiwi, Wolf, Scorpion, and Arctic Fox.
As you progress, you can upgrade it to Good and eventually Strong to tame more powerful animals.
How to Upgrade Taming Flute
Upgrading your Taming Flute requires visiting a special building on the map that appears with a hammer icon and a yellow upward arrow.
This structure is near your base and becomes available once you have the flute in your inventory.
Here’s the step-by-step process:
1. Use the Flute to Tame Animals
Every time you successfully tame an animal, your flute gains XP. This XP is represented by the yellow bar above your minimap.
Different animals give different XP amounts depending on their difficulty. Bunnies give low XP, while taming a Bear or Mammoth gives much more.
2. Fill the Flute XP Bar
Keep taming animals until the yellow flute XP bar is completely filled. Once full, it indicates your flute is ready for an upgrade.
3. Visit the Upgrade Building
Head to the Upgrade Building, which is marked on the map by the hammer icon. Interact with the station inside to trigger the upgrade menu.
4. Upgrade to the Next Flute Tier
You’ll be prompted to upgrade from Old Taming Flute → Good Taming Flute and eventually to Strong Taming Flute. There’s no separate crafting material required; the upgrade happens automatically once the XP bar is full.
All Taming Flute Levels

Strong Flute | Final tier, needed for the toughest animals | Bear, Polar Bear, Mammoth, Hellephant |
Tips for Upgrading Faster
-
Focus on mid to high-tier animals like Alpha Wolf or Arctic Fox once you get comfortable, as they give more XP than Bunnies or Kiwis.
-
Use bandages before starting taming high-aggression animals to avoid dying mid-process.
-
If you find multiple wolves or scorpions in one run, tame them in sequence to speed up the XP grind.
-
Upgrade your fire level to at least Level 4, as some animals require this before taming becomes possible.
