Biome-Locked Maps: Why the Villager’s Origin Matters

Jungle Pyramid, Swamp Hut, and every Village map only unlock from a Cartographer born in specific biomes. A villager keeps the trade list tied to where it originally spawned, not where you move it. If you relocate a Plains-born Cartographer to your base, it’ll still only sell Plains-related maps.

Tip: Want a specific map? Find an unemployed villager already living in the matching biome, then place a Cartography Table next to it there — don’t move it first.

Buried Treasure Map: The One Exception

You can’t buy this one from any villager. It only generates as loot inside Shipwrecks and Ocean Ruins. Look for a chest, and the map — marked with a red X — is inside if you’re lucky.

The 5 New Abandoned Camp Maps (26.3)

Abandoned Camps are a brand-new structure. Their secret chests hold Explorer Maps for structures that never had one before — Ancient Cities, Mineshafts, Desert Pyramids, and Warm Ocean Ruins. A fifth type, the Abandoned Campsite Map, points to other nearby camps.
