Wolves are one of the first real combat companions you can tame in 99 Nights in the Forest.
They’re stronger than rabbits, loyal in fights, and relatively easy to tame if you have the right flute and food.
Here’s a complete step-by-step guide to taming a Wolf.
How to Tame a Wolf in 99 Nights in the Forest
Step 1: Get the Old Taming Flute
To tame a Wolf, you only need the Old Taming Flute, which you can find at the Domestication Cabin near your camp at the start of a run.
Look for the red tent with a pot next to it. Inside that pot are Old Taming Flutes you can pick up.
The Old Flute is Level 1 and works for basic animals like Rabbits, Wolves, Scorpions, and Arctic Foxes.
Step 2: Play the Taming Minigame
Approach the Wolf and step into the green circle to trigger the taming minigame. A taming bar will appear on the right side of your screen.
Keep the red line inside the green area until the bar fills up.
Wolves aren’t too aggressive compared to higher-tier animals, but failed attempts can still trigger attacks.
If you have the Zookeeper class, this step is even easier.
Step 3: Feed the Wolf
Once the Wolf is calmed, it will demand food to complete the taming. For each tame, you’ll need:
-
Steak x2
Wolves require 5 successful tames, so the total food needed is:
-
Steak x10
Feed the required items after each successful flute interaction to finalize the taming.

Animal | Flute Level Required | Tames Needed | Food Required |
---|---|---|---|
Wolf | Old Flute | 5 | Steak x2 per tame (Total: 10 Steaks) |
Why Tame a Wolf
Wolves are great early to mid-game companions. They follow you consistently and help fend off aggressive entities.
While they’re not as tanky as Bears or Mammoths, Wolves give you solid backup in fights and are much easier to tame early on.
