How to grow Giant mushrooms in Minecraft

Massive mushrooms are tree-like constructions made out of mushroom blocks. They may be found naturally in swamp, dark woodland, and mushroom fields biomes, or they can be made from a tiny mushroom by applying bone meal to it – little mushrooms do not normally develop into large mushrooms.

Massive mushrooms may be created by adding bone meal to a tiny red or brown mushroom planted on the soil, coarse dirt, grass blocks, rooted dirt, or moss blocks with a skylight and a block light level of 12 or less, or on podzol, mycelium, or nylium at any light level.

A three-block radius surrounding the mushroom, as well as 7-9 blocks above the mushroom, must be free of solid blocks.

A massive mushroom cannot grow past the height restriction. Any little mushroom planted will not automatically develop into a large mushroom; a bone meal must be used.

Huge Mushroom Farming

If an adequate area is provided and the mushroom is planted on the right block, using a bone meal on either a red or brown mushroom will cause a massive mushroom to develop. When harvested, large mushrooms can produce up to 20 mushrooms. The illustration on the right depicts the minimal growth requirements:

The wood seen above represents the minimum height necessary to produce a massive mushroom of that size. Massive mushrooms can grow to reach 5, 6, or 7 blocks tall, with the maximum height being 1 block less than the available space above it. As a result, if a block is 7 meters above, the massive mushroom will always grow to reach 5 blocks tall.

The slabs below show the needed area, 77%, as well as the fact that the blocks directly adjacent to the stalk must be free, while the remainder of the bottom row does not.

Because of the lower footprint of the massive red mushroom, the mycelium on the right depicts the region where the needed space overlaps. The mushroom must be planted on blocks of earth, grass, podzol, mycelium, or nylium.

Placing blocks where the interior of a red mushroom would be doing not significantly hamper its growth; only when the blocks are directly in the path or lay outside of the mushroom will it not expand.

When obstructed by blocks in the regular growing space below, considerably taller (11+ block) mushrooms will occasionally grow, although this is inconsistent and requires a big bone meal.

You may block the light by laying dirt blocks around where the mushroom’s stem should be, allowing you to place the mushroom even closer to the surface – then fill up your tunnel and remove the dirt within the mushroom once it’s grown.

Keep in mind that the massive mushroom may still attempt to grow to a height greater than the available area, failing and wasting a bone meal. As a result, it is typically best to farm with the most possible area (778), so that the bone meal never fails.

Alternative Method

A 7x7x8 area and good ground are required for large mushroom growing. If you are planting the mushroom outside, you can use podzol, mycelium, or nylium. Podzol is more widely available in the overworld. Plant a large spruce tree with four saplings and wait for it to grow to create podzol.

When the tree matures, cut it down and use the freshly produced podzol to plant a mushroom and bone feed it. Planting consumes the underlying block, thus you’ll need to rejuvenate by planting gigantic spruce again every now and again. (Because mycelium can spread to the soil, no physical labor is necessary.)

Another method for growing mushrooms outside is to dig a 1×1 hole where you want your farm to be. Fill the 1×1 hole with water. Then, drop a mushroom into the water and rapidly bone meal it or the mushroom will unplant.

Nylium is an excellent choice for producing large mushrooms in the underworld. It’s worth noting that spreading nylium to nearby netherrack blocks is possible by utilizing bone meal on the netherrack.

The level of automation that mushroom farms can achieve is comparable to that of tree farms. These harvesters may be able to provide you with some suggestions. Farming may also be required for the bone meal input.

When a mushroom obtains a random tick, it has a 4% chance of trying to spread. When this happens, the game selects a block near the mushroom, and if a mushroom can be planted there, a new mushroom emerges; otherwise, the effort fails.

The technique used to choose the new place for the attempt is a multi-step procedure that is somewhat dependent on which adjacent blocks are eligible areas for planting a mushroom.

Mushrooms have the potential to spread up to five blocks distant (including diagonally along all three axes), but only if the blocks in between are also eligible mushroom sites.

Spreading this far has a very low likelihood – the majority of spreads will be within two blocks of the originating mushroom, with the most common places being within one block. The method is weighted in such a way that spread to neighboring y-levels is favored. This minimizes the likelihood of a mushroom spreading widely in the y-direction.

Furthermore, mushrooms will only attempt to spread if there are less than 5 mushrooms of the same type in a 9x9x3 space around the initial mushroom.

The biggest risk with little mushroom farming is that they must be kept in dimly lit interior spaces, which increases the likelihood of hostile mobs spawning in the same location (except on Peaceful mode). This can be addressed in a variety of ways.

The simplest method is to install a large number of soul torches, which emit light level 10, which is dark enough for mushrooms but illuminated enough to keep enemies away.

Another option is to install ordinary torches two blocks above the location where you want your mushrooms to grow (sometimes in tiny holes cut into the ceiling overhead). Another method is to make the farming space only one block high, pave any pathways with slabs, and use a water system to route the mushrooms out of the farm room and into the garden.
