Since players may have a steady supply of lava within their base with infinite lava, they can save a lot of time otherwise spent gathering it.
When you’ve got numerous blocks you need to smelt, this is a beneficial tool.
It used to be that lava could be replenished, however, that is no longer the case. However, with all the additional blocks included in the most recent Minecraft upgrades, there are several methods to create an endless supply of lava.
Inside a survival setting, having access to an infinite supply of lava is a huge boon, particularly if you need to process a lot of stone blocks at once.
You should be able to get your infinite lava source in Minecraft with the help of this guide.

How to make an infinite lava source in Minecraft
Lava can theoretically flow forever, but it requires some effort to keep the flow constant.
If you’re interested in making an infinite supply of lava, check out the procedures outlined below.
Method 1: Using Pointed Dripstone
This is the most efficient and reliable way to create an infinite lava source in modern Minecraft.
Materials Needed:
- Pointed Dripstone (1 block)
- 1 Lava Bucket
- 6 Cobblestone or any fireproof blocks
- 1 Cauldron
- Building block (Blackstone or Cobblestone)
Steps:
- Find Pointed Dripstone: This can be located in the Overworld’s caves, particularly in Dripstone Cave biomes. Mine it using a pickaxe.
- Set Up the Lava Farm:
- Place a cauldron on the ground.
- Two blocks above the cauldron, place a fireproof block (such as Blackstone or Cobblestone).
- Attach a pointed dripstone under the fireproof block so it drips directly into the cauldron.
- Contain the Lava: Surround the top block with additional fireproof blocks to form a containment area, and pour lava into this contained space.
- Lava Collection: Over time, lava will drip from the dripstone into the cauldron, filling it up. The lava source above the dripstone does not deplete, making this an endless lava source.
This method is slow but steady, as you can keep collecting lava from the cauldron as it fills.
If you need a faster supply, consider setting up multiple cauldrons with more dripstone and lava.
Method 2: Using the Nether Portal
This method utilizes the large lava lakes found in the Nether.
Steps:
- Build a Nether Portal: Create a portal using obsidian and flint and steel, making sure it’s located near your base for easy access.
- Gather Supplies: Before entering the Nether, gather numerous cobblestones (or another building material) and a pickaxe for building and safety.
- Locate a Lava Lake: Once in the Nether, locate a lava lake, which can be found in the Nether’s open areas.
- Construct a Safe Path: Build a sturdy cobblestone footbridge from your portal to the lava lake, ensuring your safety from Nether mobs and accidental falls.
- Harvest Lava: Once the bridge is secure, use buckets to collect as much lava as you need from the lake. Since the Nether contains vast amounts of lava, you effectively have an endless supply.
This method provides quick access to large amounts of lava but requires frequent trips to the Nether.
Method 3: Using Commands
If you are in Survival Mode and have cheats enabled, you can use commands to generate an infinite lava supply instantly.
Steps:
- Open the Command Prompt: Press T to open the chat bar.
- Enter the Command: Type the following command and press Enter: /give @a minecraft:lava_bucket 64
- This command will give you 64 lava buckets in your inventory instantly. You can use it as many times as you need to keep refilling your supply.
This method is the easiest, but it’s only available if cheats are enabled and you’re comfortable with using them.
Method 4: Using the 1.9 Pre Release 5 version
If you are playing the older Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 5 version, there’s a method that allows you to create an infinite lava source using just four buckets of lava.
Steps:
- Dig a Cross-shaped Pit: In the ground, create a cross shape (3×3) where you want the infinite lava source.
- Pour Lava: Place one lava bucket at each of the four ends of the cross.
- Collect Lava: The center block will become an infinite lava source, allowing you to keep refilling your bucket from the middle without depleting the surrounding lava.
This method only works in Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 5 and earlier versions.
