Pokémon will be racing around in the green blocky hills incessantly now that Pixelmon is set up and ready to go, and you’ve loaded up your gorgeous Minecraft environment. First, you’ll see a dialogue box asking you to choose your starter Pokémon.

Thankfully, we don’t have to rely on some strange-looking professor to provide us with our Pokémon in Pixelmon.

When you select a Pokémon, it will display in your own personal party tab on the left side of your screen. O is to modify the size of detail in the party bar on the left with default controls.

Now, aim in the direction you want your Pokémon to go and hit R (again, default keys). And your Pokémon will be flung violently in your face! Look at that cute little Pokémon, he’s staring at you with his beady eyes.

It is not necessary for the Pokémon you send out to be the one in the first slot of the party tab. Press the & buttons (by default) to shift the Pokémon selector up or down if you have more than one Pokémon.

If you’ve ever played the original Pokemon game, you’re probably familiar with the “random” encounter system, which requires you to penetrate tall grass, explore caves, cross deserts, swim over water, and so on in order to encounter region-specific Pokemon.
