Fix: Minecraft Water Elevator not working

The sandbox game Minecraft first came out in 2011 and since then has sold more than 238 million copies and Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, made the game what it is today. With constant additions and updates, Minecraft became an evergreen game.

Minecraft generates a 3D world for its players which they have to explore. Minecraft offers two game modes to its players, Creative and Survival. The objective of Survival Mode in Minecraft is, as the name suggests, to survive, and players have to discover their new world in order to do the same.

They have to mine blocks to obtain ores which later are used to make tools, monuments, buildings, and structures. Creative mode on the other hand is a more free-play mode where the game provides all the items and the player is free to do anything.

Minecraft also has an online mode that lets you play with your friends. You can trade items and resources with your friends and go on mining expeditions with them. Recently though the game has been facing glitches such as the in-game store not working and the Authentication Server down.

There are a plethora of things that you can make in Minecraft. The first thing to do while making a system or a building in Minecraft is to gather the resources. You can mine around the 3D world and gather resources that will come in handy for your project. Players make various systems and mechanisms that help them with the game. One of these systems is an elevator.

In Minecraft, an elevator is a vertical transport system that helps in carrying players and items between floors of a building. There are many types of elevators in Minecraft and in this article, we are going to talk about Water Elevators.

Water Elevators

Making a Water Elevator is a simple task in Minecraft. All you need to do is have some Minecraft skills and the following items

  • Water Bucket

A Bucket is a very useful item in Minecraft and it is generally used to carry water, milk, and lava. You can easily craft a bucket by using iron ingots. To make a Water Elevator you will need a bucket filled with water. So craft a bucket and fill it with water and you will get a step closer to making your Water Elevator.

  • Glass Blocks

You will need several blocks of glass to make your Water Elevator, the more you have it the bigger your Elevator will be. To craft glass, you will need a furnace and sand. You will also need fuel to fire up your furnace, you can use Coal to make Glass from the sand as it is the most common fuel in the game.

Use the glass to make four columns, as high as you want, and leave a hollow column in between the four. Now fill that empty column with the water you have stored in your Bucket.

  • Door or Signs

In order to stop the water from flowing out of your Water Elevator, you will need a Door or a sign. You can simply craft one from the Crafting Table with the use of some wood.

  • Kelp

Kelp is an underwater plant that is found in the ocean, you will need plenty of it to make a functioning Water Elevator. Kelp makes every block of water a source block which is a necessary requirement for a Water Elevator.

  • Soul Sand

Soul Sand is only found in the Nether. Soul Sand when placed at the base of a Water Elevator makes you travel upwards.

  • Magma Block

A Magma Block occurs naturally in Minecraft, it is found in abundance in the Nether World and also sometimes in the Overworld. A Magma Block is responsible to make you travel down in a Water Elevator.

How to Fix Minecraft Water Elevator not working

  • Step 1: Make sure there is no leakage

While stacking up your glass blocks make sure you have not left any blank blocks except for the ones needed for the proper functioning of the Water Elevator.

  • Step 2: Remove the Base Blocks

You must check your water supply, start that by removing the Base Blocks of either Soul Sand or Magma from the bottom and replace them with either a Sand Block or a Dirt Block.

  • Step 3: Make every block of Water a Source Block

The only way with which your Water Elevator can work is when each and every block is a Source Block. You can make every block of water in your Elevator a Source Block simply by placing Kelp in it. Start from the bottom and keep stacking it till the last block. After that break the Kelp from the bottom and it will make every block of water a Source Block.

  • Step 4: Place the desired blocks back

After confirming that every block of water is a Source Block replace the Sand or Dirt Block back with either Soul Sand or Magma Block.

How to fix Soul Sand Elevator in Minecraft

  • Step 1: Check if you have the right base

It is common to mistake Soul Sand with Soul Soil. The Water Elevator will not work if the block under the blocks of water is of Soul Soil, hence make sure that you are using Soul Sand and not Soul Soil.

  • Step 2: Remove the Soul Sand block

If the Water Elevator does not work you should replace the base block of Soul Sand with Sand or Dirt.

  • Step 3: Making every block of Water a Source Block

In order to make a working  Water Elevator, it is vital that every block of water is a Source Block. Place Kelp in every block of water inside the Elevator and it will turn them into Source Blocks. Once you are done placing them till the very last block, break the Kelp from the bottom.

  • Step 4: Replace the bottom block

After following the steps mentioned above, replace the block at the bottom with a block of Soul Sand. This shall complete your Water Elevator.
